Shake Shack Will Hit Shanghai in 2019

It will be the chain’s first mainland China location

Shake Shack is headed to Shanghai: The beloved Danny Meyer-founded burger chain revealed this morning it will open its first mainland China location by 2019. The announcement comes fresh on the heels of last month’s news that Shack will open in Hong Kong in 2018.

Before long, crinkle fries and concretes will be scattered across Asia: After expanding into Tokyo in 2015, where it now has four stores and plans for 10 in all by 2020, Shake Shack opened in Seoul last summer with the first of 25 stores planned for South Korea. It’s now slated to open 14 outlets in Hong Kong and Macau by 2027, and 25 across Shanghai and East China through 2028.

The chain’s push into Asia is made possible by a licensing agreement with Maxim’s Caterers Ltd., which also operates the Cheesecake Factory in China.
