Savvy Shoppers Save Over £18 Million in Biggest Black Friday Event Ever

Collaborative robots at Boots warehouse expected to travel over 37 miles during the Black Friday peak to support picking operations

Friday 25 November, UK: Boots has kick-started its most affordable Christmas yet with its biggest ever weekend of deals on the way this Black Friday. Savvy shoppers have been taking advantage of a whole month of Black Friday deals which launched 1 November, saving over £18 million so far.

Over 18,000 promotions will be on offer across Christmas gifting, electrical beauty and premium cosmetics ranges, with discounts up to £320*. Boots also ran an exclusive 2-hour only promotion on the Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer with orders up almost 9000% versus the day before.

Boots has been investing in its supply chain to bring faster, more efficient deliveries. It has commissioned new UK-first automation at its main warehouse to enable an extra 70,000 lines a day to be picked, the equivalent of 20,000 more orders per day. It will also use its team of ‘Cobots’ - collaborative robots – to support its picking operations, with each Cobot predicted to travel over 37 miles a day during the Black Friday peak, versus a usual 28 miles.

Seb James, Managing Director at Boots, said:

We love Black Friday at Boots. It is a time of year when people can find really good value for presents for those that they love. This year, life might be a bit tougher for everybody and so we have worked hard to do more and offer better deals than ever. In fact, we have 18,000 deals in all, and more than half of our Christmas range is £10 and under. I really hope that everybody will come and take a look in our stores and online over the next few days!”

Dispatched orders on boots.com are already up by 11% versus last year, and operations ready to process an influx of orders over the Black Friday weekend. To make online shopping easier, Boots has improved its website, including streamlining the customer journey by reducing the clicks required to check out by 40%, and it has introduced ApplePay and Klarna**, for those customers wishing to split the cost of their shopping into three interest and fee-free payments.

Additionally, Boots has introduced more ‘hybrid’ stores which pick and pack online orders. There are now 90 of these stores across the UK, that operate as normal Boots stores, but also support the warehouse with boots.com and click and collect orders.

Boots is also focused on offering value for customers all year round, locking the price of over 1,500 essential products and expanding Price Advantage to over 900 products per month, saving customers over £20 million since the start of the year.
